Anne Carolyn Klein, PhD, is professor of Religious Studies at Rice University and founding director and resident teacher at Dawn Mountain Tibetan Temple. After graduating from Harpur College (now Binghamton University), she earned her M.A. in Buddhist Studies from the University of Wisconsin and her PhD. in Religious/Tibetan Studies from the University of Virginia. Following this, she was awarded a Teaching and Research position at Harvard Divinity School as a Research Associate in Women’s Studies and the History of Religion.

She has practiced, studied, and translated in three Tibetan Buddhist traditions since 1971, and has authored six books, including Meeting the Great Bliss Queen, Unbounded Wholeness: Dzogchen, Bon and the Logic of the Nonconceptual, and Heart Essence of the Vast Expanse, and numerous articles.

Dr. Klein’s scholarship spans logic, epistemology, women’s studies, mysticism, and embodied experience of contemplative practice. Dr. Klein’s recent work expands her earlier research on the interface of women, religion, and the social world. Her contributions to bringing ancient texts alive for a modern Western audience are appreciated in settings of traditional Buddhist teachings and rigorous scholarship.
