The Maitripa College student body includes a wide diversity in age, gender, and country of origin, including a mix of onsite and online students and a mix of degree students and continuing education students. Classes are small and intimate and interaction with faculty is paramount.
Maitripa students have unparalleled access to faculty and unique opportunities provided by a wide range of visiting teachers. Students have the opportunity to attend and assist with major academic and professional events in the wider community, as well as the option to participate if they wish in regular Buddhist practices in the Jokhang (Meditation Hall), in special retreats and Buddhist celebrations, various ritual activities, and pilgrimages — all while enjoying the rich cultural opportunities of Portland and the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

A Wide Variety of Community Events
Community at Maitripa College has its roots in the traditional Buddhist definition of sangha (gendun in Tibetan), referring to the community of companions who offer support and friendship on the spiritual path. Students have access to ongoing practices and teachings, as well as special events and retreats.

Private Spiritual Care
Maitripa College offers opportunities for community care and student learning in the form of private, short, spiritual care conversations with chaplains, faculty, or advanced students in the MDiv and MA degree programs. All program students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity as they wish.
