JULIE DREYER works as a chaplain at Providence Medical Center in Portland. A singer and musician, she often leads our community in song, including a beautiful rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine,” in which she incorporates the mantra of the Buddha of Compassion: Om Mani Padme Hum.

I really love having Rinpoche as a teacher. It’s hard to describe. This is such a powerful way to experience the teachings. His personal style is very gentle, humble, fun, playful, curious, mutual and collaborative.

I’ve been a part of many communities over the years, and some of them for a long span of time. But, there is something different here. There is this aspect of inclusivity that I’ve never experienced anywhere else. Also, people take such good care of each other. This community shows up in ways that really blow my mind.

“Go Beyond, Go Far Beyond” with Julie Dreyer, MDiv: During a Sunday morning teaching, Yangsi Rinpoche asked Julie to lead the community in singing the Heart Sutra mantra, or Perfection of Wisdom mantra, together.
