Sacred Medicine: Healing Rituals with the Ganden Shartse Monk ~ Ganden Shartse Monks | Sacred Harmony 2026 World Peace Tour

February 4-8, 2026

In February 2026, Maitripa College welcomes the Ganden Shartse Monks as part of their Sacred Harmony 2026 World Peace Tour for a week of Medicine Buddha Mandala creation and healing rituals.

Rooted in the classical Tibetan Buddhist medical and ritual traditions, this visit offers a rare opportunity to witness—and participate in—a living lineage of healing practice. Over several days, the monks will create a traditional Medicine Buddha sand mandala, an intricate sacred geometry representing the awakened healing mind and the interdependent nature of wellbeing.

The mandala is not an object for display, but a ritual field—a space generated through mantra, mudra, visualization, and disciplined attention. As the mandala takes form, it becomes a container for prayer and intention dedicated to the healing of physical illness, emotional suffering, environmental imbalance, and collective trauma.

The week will culminate in two days of healing rituals, offered as acts of compassion and service for all who attend. This program is open to the public and offered in the spirit of generosity, reflection, and collective care.

Why Medicine Buddha?

In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Medicine Buddha embodies the awakened principle of healing—healing of body, mind, and the deeper causes of suffering. Practices associated with Medicine Buddha are traditionally performed:

  • during times of illness or crisis
  • to support caregivers and healers
  • to restore balance within communities
  • to generate merit dedicated to world peace

The mandala and rituals serve as a method of transformation, reminding us that healing arises through wisdom, compassion, and interdependence.

What to Expect During Mandala Creation

  • Ongoing Medicine Buddha Mandala creation carried out in silence and ritual precision over several days
  • A ritual space open to all during mandala creation, welcoming visitors to enter quietly to meditate, pray, reflect, or simply observe
  • Opportunities to witness the discipline, devotion, and contemplative focus of monastic ritual practice
  • Specific healing rituals led by senior Ganden Shartse monks
  • A reverent and spacious environment that supports presence, intention, and collective care

All are welcome to witness this rare and profound ritual cycle, offered as a living expression of healing and compassion in our world today. There is no cost to attend, but your donation in support of the Ganden monks is appreciated.

What to Expect During the Healing Rituals

This healing ritual is a powerful communal practice drawn from the Tibetan Buddhist monastic tradition, offered for the benefit of all beings. Through chanting, mantra, ritual movement, and focused intention, the monks create a field of prayer dedicated to the alleviation of physical illness, emotional suffering, and obstacles to wellbeing.

Participants are invited to receive the ritual as an act of compassion and care—both for themselves and on behalf of others. The practice is non-denominational in spirit and open to all, regardless of religious background or prior experience.
