Maitripa College Mission Statement: May Compassion and Wisdom Serve the World.

Maitripa College, a Buddhist institution rooted in the Nalanda tradition, offers graduate and lifelong learning programs in both physical and digital formats. Through the integration of contemplative practice, Buddhist scholarship, academic inquiry, and spiritual formation, grounded in three pillars of scholarship, meditation, and service, we educate students in critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and contemplative methodologies. Our programs prepare graduates to apply their learning in service to their communities and the world with compassion, joy, and equanimity.

State Authorization and Future Accreditation

Maitripa Institute received legal authority in July 2008 from the State of Oregon to offer graduate degrees in Buddhist Studies. This approval means that Maitripa is now a College, and that its program courses are available for college credit. Maitripa is currently offering a Master of Arts degree in Buddhist Studies and a Masters of Divinity (MDiv) degree. This achievement is the first step towards regional accreditation. We hope to expand this program into a fully-functioning accredited university in the future, and to continue the precedent of great scholarship in and practical application of this rich philosophical tradition in America.

This school is a non-profit corporation and is authorized by the State of Oregon to offer and confer the academic degrees and certificates described herein, following a determination that state academic standards will be satisfied under OAR 583-030.
