Instructor of History of Buddhist Thought in India and Tibet

Maitripa College welcomes applications for the position of instructor of the course History of Buddhist Thought in India and Tibet, for the fall 2016 term. Applications are invited from individuals with expertise in the development of Buddhist thought, from Indian philosophic schools through their contestation, explication, and evolution in Tibet. Applicant should demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching and appreciation for both Western and Tibetan scholarly traditions and their approaches to history.

Teaching responsibility includes graduate level instruction of one class: History of Buddhism in India and Tibet. This course is an introductory survey of the history, doctrines, institutions, and practices of Buddhism in India and Tibet from its origins through the 1950s.

Adjunct appointment is for fall, 2016, with possibility of renewal for subsequent summers or terms upon satisfactory review. The Instructor will have access to past program syllabi and textbooks, as well as an opportunity to develop the course syllabus and materials. The Instructor is invited to take part in the life of the College, including meetings and informal events directed toward graduate training and community building, while in residence. Compensation for this position is based upon qualifications.
