(2 credits) This seminar marks the beginning of Maitripa College's Service Pillar curriculum, introducing students to the emerging field of Buddhist ministry and the spiritual dimensions of service. Framed as a path of transformation, the course explores the inner alchemy that occurs when selfless action, contemplative insight, and the experience of suffering and love converge in service to others.
Students will investigate various contemplative ways of knowing, explore love as an epistemology and spiritual response to suffering, and develop a working framework for personal theology within and beyond Buddhist traditions. Through storytelling, dialogue, and embodied practice, students will reflect on their own path and prepare to engage in service with integrity, awareness, and compassion.
The course is rooted in the understanding that spiritual transformation unfolds not only in silent meditation but also through meaningful encounters, courageous care, and the deep listening required in service. This class is foundational for all students seeking to serve others as part of their practice and path.
