(2 credits) This course will explore preparing for death through to its aftermath for oneself, our loved ones –learning to make deeper use of this powerful opportunity for spiritual practice. The course will also offer practical logistics and resources for offering service to the dying and bereaved in the larger community and in leadership settings, such as a Chaplain or Funeral Celebrant, with multicultural and multifaith awareness and sensitivity. Explore the Tibetan Buddhist view of the great potential for development and transformation this time supports for the mind, as well as the stages of the physical dying process and how to use those ideas. This examination will include a deep dive into our own belief systems and ways of taking refuge in them, as well as tools for supporting others in their refuge connection, specific to their individual worldviews.
