SUMMARY:The Hidden Happiness Tour: Jangchub Choeling Nuns
DESCRIPTION:SAVE THE DATES!\nThe Hidden Happiness Tour:\nJangchub Choeling Nuns Visit Events\nSeptember 14-21\, 2026\nMost events in person at Maitripa College and online\nFinal dates and times for all events and registration will be available August 15\nWomen’s Wisdom from Monastic Life\n(format: afternoon/evening conversation\, moderated)\nAni Choyang and a sister nun from Jangchub Choeling Nunnery moderated by our own Venerable Yonten from the Maitripa Rabjungma Community about what life as an ordained person actually looks like from the inside. Drawing on their own years in monastic community\, the Venerables will speak to what sustains a spiritual life over decades\, and what women in particular bring to that path. This is a rare chance to hear directly from monastics whose training few Western audiences ever encounter firsthand. Date TBD\, \nThe Mind’s Potential: Dream Yoga and Contemplative Science\n(format: afternoon/evening talk\, moderated)\nThis talk turns toward the mind itself\, asking how far its capacities may extend. The nuns bring dream yoga and other contemplative practices into conversation with what contemplative science has begun to confirm about awareness\, attention\, and change; along the way\, the talk opens onto the themes at the heart of Maitripa’s year: anger\, anxiety\, and death\, and the buddha nature that underlies all three. Attendees leave with a broader sense of what a trained mind can do\, and a preview of where the year ahead will lead. Date TBD. \nTransforming Anger\, Anxiety\, and Death\n(format: afternoon/evening talk\, moderated)\nFew things touch every life as directly as anger\, anxiety\, and the fact of death; this talk meets all three head-on\, offering the Buddhist tradition’s long experience in working with what most of us would rather avoid. Ani Choyang speaks from lived monastic training and personal practice\, translating ancient methods into guidance anyone can use. The talk sets up the three programs Maitripa will offer across the coming year\, each devoted to one of these difficult\, universal experiences. Date TBD. \nA Day for Women: Fierce and Steady Practice\n(format: all day retreat)\nOn Saturday\, September 19\, 2026\, Maitripa College will host a one-day retreat for women marking the close of the Hidden Happiness Tour’s Portland visit\, led by Ani Choyang\, Venerable Yönten\, and Maitripa College leadership. The day will turn towards the distinct qualities women have long carried within the tradition: a fierceness capable of meeting anger\, fear\, and mortality without flinching\, alongside a steady\, strong attention that holds space for others to do the same. Through sitting practice\, guided reflection\, and shared conversation\, participants will explore this inheritance directly\, and in community. The retreat level will be for intermediate and advanced level practitioners\, by application only. In person in Portland only. Enquire for details. \nRegistration to come

SUMMARY:Mind and Its Potential\, Module 1 of Discovering Buddhism with Venerable Yönten
DESCRIPTION:Mind and Its Potential\, Module 1 of Discovering Buddhism\n(Thursdays 6-7:30p September 17-December 3) \nIn person at Maitripa College and online.\nRegistration opens August 15. \nPlease join us for Mind and Its Potential\, the first module in a rare continuous fourteen-part program that carries students the entire way through the Buddhist path to enlightenment\, taught by the skillful and experienced Venerable Lozang Yönten. \nThe opening session examines the mind itself: how it constructs the experiences we call happiness and suffering\, and how destructive thoughts and attitudes can be recognized\, understood\, and transformed into a mind that is genuinely positive and at ease. It is the foundation on which all fourteen modules of Discovering Buddhism are built. \nEach session of this course will be delivered to support real engagement and application\, giving students the chance to work directly with the teachings rather than to simply hear them. Guidance will be offered on the mechanisms behind meditation itself\, so that students can use this understanding to deepen their practice and maintain stability and consistency in daily life. \nThe course is open to beginners and taught with enough depth to enrich senior students as well. Students may join the cycle at any point\, but the early session is the ideal place to begin. Under  Venerable Yönten’s guidance\, this fourteen-part\, consecutive journey offers a rare chance to walk the complete path with a single skilled teacher from start to finish. Don’t miss this opportunity. \nJoin by Zoom here (link coming soon)
